Salt in the Spine

Some families are inherited. Some are chosen. And some are just surviving you.

Kaia and Leti have buried enough people. After their father’s death leaves them with a house they can’t keep, a few thousand dollars, and no real reason to stay in Washington, the sisters head south with no plan beyond movement. California is supposed to be temporary; a place to disappear for a while, outrun the ghosts, and figure out what comes next. Instead, they find themselves pulled into the orbit of a fractured Bay Area family held together by childhood loyalty, old grief, and the memory of a boy none of them learned how to lose.
Leti finds an unexpected refuge in Cachí, an artist carrying more guilt than he knows what to do with. Kaia finds something far more dangerous in Kayden: a man his family still remembers loving, even as they begin to fear what he has become.
As old loyalties collide with new attachments, the line between protecting someone and enabling them begins to disappear. And when violence finally forces everyone to choose a side, survival may demand more than walking away.

A dark literary crime novel about sisterhood, found family, vengeance, and the ghosts we carry long after the people themselves are gone.
